Stone hurled at train; boy injured

A 10-year-old boy from Kannur sustained severe head injuries when an unidentified person threw a stone at a running train near the Edappally railway station on Monday afternoon.

The boy was travelling with his family members in the Ernakulam-Madgaon Express and the incident occurred a few minutes after the train started its journey from the Ernakulam South station.

The stone hurled from near the Edappally station hit Adnan Razi, on the back of his head. It caused a fracture on the skull and the boy soon fell unconscious.

Passengers pulled the alarm chain and the train was stopped in Edappally. The boy was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is recovering. His condition was reported to be stable.

The boy was returning from Alappuzha along with his parents after attending a family get-together of a teachers’ union of which his father is a member.

The family boarded the train for Kannur. The Edappally police have registered a case and started investigations. The police have detained three persons for questioning.
