Sreedharan concerned about traffic hold-ups

E. Sreedharan, Principal Adviser to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), has sought the cooperation of stakeholders concerned in making effective arrangements to regulate traffic in the vicinity of Kochi metro piling sites.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he expressed concern over traffic hold-ups near a few sites since alternative routes have not been readied or resurfaced to divert vehicles.

Traffic congestion near work sites at Kalamassery, Kaloor, M.G. Road and Kadavantra often get out of hand because of the inability of the police, the civic agencies and the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) in regulating and diverting vehicles.

The complaint is also rife that the police have not put up adequate number of sign boards near work sites to guide motorists to alternative routes.

The DMRC has reduced the width of barricading at places such as Pulinchodu near Aluva where metro pillars are ready. “Barricades will be removed once crash barriers are erected around the pillars,” sources said.

Protest held

Metro work at the piling site at TVS Junction, Kalamassery, was held up for a few hours on Tuesday when people protested against barricades obstructing the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Work resumed by afternoon, metro sources said.
