Significant progress made in city development, claims Kochi Mayor

Operation Breakthrough to be extended to Kammattipadam, West Kochi

The civic administration has made significant progress in the implementation of development projects during the past fiscal, according to Mayor M. Anilkumar.

He said the administration had succeeded in putting the construction of the apartment complex at Thuruthy Colony in Fort Kochi back on track. The construction of the eight floors of the 11-floor apartment complex has been completed. The bids for constructing the remaining floors of the structure were floated. The construction of the apartment complex at Mundamveli for rehabilitating the residents of the P&T Colony in Gandhi Nagar was also progressing, he said while addressing the council at a session convened to pass the annual budget.

The civic administration, claimed Mr. Anilkumar, succeeded in re-activating the e-governance programme, which had been pending for long. The issuance of birth, death and marriage certificates has gone online. Payment of property tax has been partly made online, he said.

The Operation Breakthrough project will be extended to Kammattipadam and West Kochi in the second phase. Flood mitigation measures were also progressing, he informed the council.

Mr. Anilkumar also highlighted the budget allocation made by the State government for the Centre for Heritage Environment and Development in his reply speech in the council.

The steps for setting up a new waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram, the proposal for a third roll-on roll-off vessel, the extension of Samridhi@kochi, the subsidised food supply scheme, to different parts of the city and the modification of the crematorium at Pulleppady and Ravipuram were some of the new initiatives of the civic body, he said.
