The fine arts consortium at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, will have something to cheer about when the Kannur International Airport is commissioned on December 9.

A mural painting (of height 60 ft and width 80 ft) depicting the traditional art form of Vishnumoorthy Theyyam set up by the consortium at the airport terminal will welcome travellers from the country and abroad. An official release issued here said the mural was first made in cement. Later, acrylic colours were added. The jewellery in the mural was coated with brass and aluminium. The art work was completed by a team led by Saju Thuruthil, Head of Department of Painting, over a period of four months.

Diljith, Vishnu, Sujith, Sreenoj, former students of the varsity, were part of the team. The release said talks were on with the airport authorities to set up more works at the terminal. The consortium has been undertaking several such projects, it said.
