The row between the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and tenants of its shopping complex at Kaloor Jawaharlal International Stadium over the return of shops closed down ahead of the recently concluded FIFA Under-17 World Cup has not ended yet.
Though the GCDA had agreed to handover keys of 32 tenants with valid documents and no rent arrears on Wednesday, majority of them turned down the offer taking umbrage at an eight-point affidavit, which GCDA wanted them to sign as a precondition. Only a couple of tenants signed the affidavit and reopened their shops.
Tenants were especially opposed to clauses 6 and 7 in the affidavit asking them to “indemnify and hold harmless the GCDA and its officers, for any claim or cause of action brought by any third party” and “agree to pay the rent of the shop room/office room/ godown as and when increased by GCDA.”
