Justice B. Kemal Pasha of the Kerala High Court on Friday addressed a letter to the Registrar of the High Court seeking to restrain political parties from blocking roads in the name of celebrations and demonstrations.
The judge wrote the letter on the basis of his experience on the day when the public campaigning for the elections came to an end. According to him, there was heavy traffic block on the national highway and other roads on April 14.He was stranded for more than two hours on the Aluva-Angamaly road on the day. He said he could witness persons dancing on the road and policemen aiding them by blocking the traffic. All the travelling public, including school students, were stranded on the road due to the inhuman activities. The judge said the political parties or persons under them had no right to make use of the public road as a playground at their whims and fancies. It was high time to have a judicial intervention to prevent recurrence of such inhuman activities. The judge requested that the letter be placed before a Division Bench so that the same could be treated as a PIL.
