The famed Australian World Orchestra, which features renowned Australia-origin musicians from around the world, is set to perform in the city on September 25 as part of its three-city India tour.
Announcing this here, Alexander Briger, chief conductor and artistic director, said the orchestra would feature 52 of Australia’s finest musicians from world’s leading orchestras who will perform a string of operatic and symphonic works including those of Mozart, Beethoven and Bizet. The proceeds from the Kochi concert would be donated to the Centre for Autism India at Thiruvalla. An education team of the Australian World Orchestra will also travel to Thiruvalla a day after the concert in Kochi to conduct workshops and performances with the children and their teachers, a media note said.
A special highlight of the concert in the city is the solo performance of noted violinist Daniel Dodds, artistic director of festival Strings Lucerne, of the virtuosic Rondo Capriccioso by Saint Saens which he will play on his 1717 Stradivarius violin. “It’s an extremely difficult piece to play towards the end,” Mr. Briger said. The orchestra is also bringing mezzo-soprano Caroline Meng as a guest soloist and she’ll perform three famous arias from Bizet’s opera, Carmen.
