Rare documents related to the death of Mahatma Gandhi were handed over to the Archives Department on the occasion of his 70th death anniversary here on Tuesday.
An official release said that two rare notifications issued by the erstwhile Kochi kingdom on January 30, 1948, were handed by Imbashekhar, Sub Collector, to the officials of Archives Department at a function held in Kochi taluk.
The first notification referred to the announcement related to the death of Mahatma Gandhi meant for the general public. It said that government institutions, schools and colleges and court will remain closed for three days as a mark of respect to the departed leader. The notification said that no meetings or jathas should be held the next day and also urged the people to offer felicitations to the Father of the Nation. The second notification referred to the declaration of holiday for banks as a mark of respect to Mahatma Gandhi. A copy of the document has been kept at the Kochi taluk office. The documents were found as part of the modernisation of records at the office.
