Cyber cell awaiting admin login details

A day after the official website of Ernakulam Siva Temple was found hacked, the Central police have registered a case under the IT Act and launched an investigation.

This was after District Police Chief (Kochi City) M.P. Dinesh asked the Central police to register a case and carry out an investigation with the assistance of the police cyber cell.

The website, www.ernakulathapan.com, was found hacked around Thursday afternoon and its home page was pasted with anti-national slogans and offensive language besides a Pakistan flag.

Cyber cell sources said that they were awaiting admin login details from temple authorities to start working on the case. “Data like login details of all admins and from where they logged in is vital since the IP address is shown as from outside the country. The data is needed to verify whether the site was hacked from abroad or from within the country using proxy servers,” sources said.

Second cyber attack

This is the second time the temple’s website is coming under cyber attack.

The first instance of hacking was in November 2016, when the website was taken down after it showed anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans. However, the culprits in that case could not be traced after the temple authorities deleted some vital data. This time around, they were careful in not making such interventions.
