: From bed bugs and cockroaches to poor sanitation and lack of paramedical staff, being admitted at the Government Ayurveda Medical College hospital at Tripunithura is almost like living a nightmare.

Water supply is scarce, said the bystander of 62-year-old woman, who was admitted with problems to the spinal disc. “Water is available only for an hour in the morning and we scramble to store it for the whole day,” she said.

In effect, the toilets stink because of lack of water.

“When the cleaning staff arrives, there is usually no water,” she said. “Water is muddy and it soils the toilet, too. Patients have no choice but to use this water. We keep a bottle of clean water to wash hands and mouth.” Patients are at times, forced to even use paper after going to the toilet, said the bystander.

Tintu, who came in with food for her father said, “We cannot even sit on the furniture here, as we are worried about the bud bugs. Every day I have to dust myself thoroughly before entering our house to ensure I don’t carry them home.”
