Policemen on duty to be supplied drinking water

: The Police Department has begun distribution of cold drinking water at periodic intervals to police personnel on duty, especially those on traffic duty who are the worst hit by the unprecedented hot weather conditions in the State.

Initiative

An initiative taken by State Police Chief T P Senkumar, the programme plans to distribute bottled cold mineral water, lemonade or buttermilk to police personnel.

District Police Chief Satish Bino has directed the department personnel to distribute cold drinks to police personnel on traffic duty four times a day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Biju K Stephen, 25 police personnel posted in 15 traffic points in the district would benefit from the new initiative in Kottayam town.

The Ettumanur police have also launched their project.

Lemonade

The lemonade and butter milk are produced by the police persons themselves and then distribute on their vehicle.

The expense is being met from the Welfare Fund for Police Persons.

A sum of Rs. 40,000 has been released for the district to implement measures to tide over the summer heat, he said.
