Police step up security ahead of festival season

The police are tightening security measures in the city and district ahead of the upcoming Vishu and Easter festival season. Checking for illegal firecrackers and contraband substances have begun at various parts of the district.

Teams of police officers have been stationed along various parts of the city and surrounding areas to check vehicles for illegal substances. Police are also conducting raids in various regions to curb illegal activities during the festival. “We are checking for explosives, illicit liquor and spirits, contraband substances, and activities of anti-social elements. Besides the checking along roads, we are also patrolling different areas and conducting raids,” said City Police Commissioner K.G. James.

Combing operations

In the Ernakulam rural district, the police are conducting combing operations to seize illegal firecrackers and narcotics. “Illegal firecrackers were seized from two places in Angamaly in the last two days. More such operations are being conducted,” said District police chief S. Sateesh Bino. More than two loads of illegally stored firecrackers were seized from Angamaly here recently.
