‘Gang supplied drugs to parties organised in the Infopark region’

The city police on Tuesday busted a five-member gang peddling narcotic drugs among IT professionals in Kochi, and seized about 1.5 kg of drugs from their possession.

The accused have been identified as 25-year-old Sibi and Firoz, both natives of Manjali; Thanseer, 20; Anoop, 20; and Rufees, 20; all hailing from Puthuvype. The gang is known as ‘Shango Bros’ among IT employees.

According to the police, the three Puthuvype natives had also been supplying MDMA and LSD drugs to clients.

The police zeroed in on the racket based on inputs received from two IT professionals who landed in police custody recently while using ganja. Sleuths approached the racket as techies seeking ganja, and held two of them from a beer parlour near the Ernakulam Market.

The remaining three were arrested from an apartment later.

According to the police, the gang supplied drugs to rave parties organised in the Infopark region on weekends. The gang used to smuggle ganja from Oddanchatram in Tamil Nadu using motorcycles while they procured narcotic substances from Goa, and trafficked them through inter-State goods carriers.

The accused have been booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
