IT says while they sympathise with the candidates, they would be at a loss to part with unaccounted cash recovered from the agencies.

Their dream of landing a nursing job in Kuwait dashed by the nursing recruitment scam involving several manpower consulting agencies operating from Kochi, a group of 22 nursing recruits has petitioned the Income Tax department for refund of the money they paid to these agencies.

IT department has so far recovered unaccounted cash worth nearly Rs 7.3 crore from the premises of various manpower consultancy firms, primarily Al Zarafa Travel and Manpower Consultants and Mathew International, in connection with the scam.

The firms were reportedly collecting 100 times more than the stipulated fee for recruitment. IT sources said while their sympathies are with the candidates who coughed up huge sums to secure jobs overseas, they would be at a loss to part with unaccounted cash recovered from the agencies. Apparently, even those candidates who received their visa and ticket, failed to receive final clearances from the Kuwait health ministry, said a source.
