Six Navy and four Coast Guard officers successfully completed their aeronautical specialisation course at a passing out ceremony held at the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT) at the Naval Base here on Saturday.
Rear Admiral S. Madhusudanan, the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Ship Repair Yard, Kochi, reviewed the parade. The officers underwent 52 weeks of training in basic aeronautical subjects and practical training on various types of aircraft as part of the course.
Deputy Commandant D. Jayakumar, who stood first in the order of merit among air engineer officers, was awarded the HAL Trophy. He also shared INS Venduruthy Trophy for the best project with Deputy Commandant A.S. Tanwar. Lieutenant Sheshnath Mishra, who topped the order of merit among air electrical officers, was awarded the Chief of Naval Staff Trophy along with the Director General Coast Guard Trophy for the best all-rounder.

Rear Admiral Madhusudanan, in his address, stressed the increased responsibility on the officers in the wake of acquisition of modern aircraft by the Navy and the impending induction of the second aircraft carrier Vikramaditya. He expressed satisfaction that the officers were being provided high quality training, which enabled them to earn B. Tech and M. Tech degrees in aeronautics. The Rear Admiral also dwelt upon the importance of developing self confidence through professional competence, currency with the latest technologies, courage of conviction, commitment to service and above all, leadership by personal example.
Captain Deepak Bansal, the Director of the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, conducted the parade.
