National e-governance meet opens in Kochi on Thursday

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the two-day national conference on e-governance at the Le Meridien Convention Centre here on Thursday.

The conference, based on the theme ‘e-governance – vision to implementation’, will explore the most effective and innovative strategies of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in transforming governance.

V. Narayanasamy, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, will be the chief guest. Minister for Industries and IT P.K. Kunhalikutty will preside.

The conference is being jointly organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, and State government’s Department of Information Technology. NASSCOM is the knowledge partner.

The conference will make an attempt to ascertain the quality of service and achievements of a transparent, effective, responsive, and accountable system of governance.

It will provide a platform for policy makers, practitioners, industry leaders and academicians to interact and recommend a strategy for good governance besides ways to improve the standard of services rendered to the citizens. The prestigious annual national awards on e-governance will be given away at the conference. About 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the conference featuring multiple plenary sessions on different e-governance themes.

The first day will feature sessions on topics such as best practices in e-governance based on some selected projects; leveraging emerging technologies and empowering citizen: process-centricity to citizen-centricity; and framework for replication-challenges in productisation of applications.

An exhibition featuring the e-governance-related IT products and services will be held alongside the conference. A cultural show has been scheduled at the end of the first day.
