Misbehaving with fellow motorists landed two autorickshaw drivers in trouble after their indecent actions turned viral in the social media.
Taking serious view of the incidents, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) authorities seized their vehicles and suspended their licences for three months each after their explanations were found unsatisfactory during the mandatory hearing. Besides, both of them have been asked to do community service for varying durations.
In the first incident, the driver was accused of responding to a fellow road user with indecent exposure when asked to shift his autorickshaw parked in way holding up traffic along the area. In the second case near Ernakulam Town Hall, the auto driver dangerously overtook a car along the left side and blocked the passenger seated on the left side of the car from alighting. When the passenger questioned the act, the accused slapped him across the face.

In the first case, the driver was asked to serve at the palliative care unit of the Ernakulam General Hospital for 15 days followed by similar community service in the cancer ward. The second accused was asked to attend to patients at the General Hospital for 12 days.
Both the accused had been asked to follow the hospital superintendent’s instructions through the duration of their community service as their fate will also depend on the certificate issued by the superintendent at the end of their service period.
“They were asked either to attend a fortnight-long session at the Institute Of Driver Training And Research, Edappal, or to undertake community service. They opted the latter considering the distance factor if they were to go to Edappal,” said K. Manoj Kumar, Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer. Community service is not legally binding though authorities bank on it as a corrective measure for wayward motorists.
