KOCHI: Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is going the whole hog with the intent to commission the stretch up to Maharaja’s College Ground before the start of the Under-17 Football World Cup in the city on October 7.
Systems and projects directors of KMRL had met the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) the other day, following which the stretch will now be inspected by the CMRS on September 3. “Work on the signalling system is progressing along the stretch,” KMRL Managing Director Elias George told the media on the sidelines of Mizhitheliyikkal of murals reflective of the art, culture, and literature of the State at the Changampuzha Park metro station on Wednesday.
The murals were done by Yeskay Designs, Kochi, after it was selected by an expert panel comprising artist T. Kaladharan and lyricist and administrator K. Jayakumar. The walls of the station at both the entry and exit are adorned with murals.

If it is Krishna and Gopikas on one side, the other side has a depiction of Kerala’s varied art forms.
Arjun S. Kumar, who owns Yeskay, said three muralists had worked on the project, together covering an area of around 600 sq ft. “The surface was prepared by painting it white and then a hand sketch of the work was done. The murals were painted using acrylic colours.”
His team had previously worked for several private spaces and temples.

Mr. Kumar said the firm was in talks with KMRL to see if the idea could be replicated at the other metro stations.
