Metro eyes carbon credit

June 16, 2013 01:19 am | Updated 01:19 am IST - KOCHI:

Kochi Metro Rail Limited has assigned CDM Smith to carry out a survey to assess the expected reduction in carbon emissions along the metro alignment from 2018 to 2048. The study will give an idea about the expected reduction in number of cars, two-wheelers and other vehicles following the metro’s commissioning and the resultant fall in pollution. This would help KMRL earn carbon credits, said the agency’s spokesperson in a release.

CDM Smith is also conducting a study for the projection of revenue pattern to help identify a suitable funding option for the project.

The scope also includes a study about multimodal integrated approach, involving the metro rail, buses, boats, autos. The possibility of introducing integrated ticketing for these modes of transport too will be probed.
