Medical college granted sanction for PG seats

May 30, 2014 10:12 am | Updated 10:12 am IST - KOCHI:

Ernakulam Medical College has received the Letter of Permission for five postgraduate courses from the Union Health Ministry.

Students who will appear for the third round of online counselling from Saturday onwards will most likely get 11 more seats to choose from. Medical College officials told The Hindu that the letter has been forwarded to the director of Medical Education.

It is up to the government to make the seats available for students by including it in the list by Friday, which is the last date for compilation and publication of net vacant seats for the third round of counselling. The medical college will have three seats in medicine and two each in paediatrics, psychiatry, pathology and microbiology. The medical college, which had received the Letter of Intent earlier in April, could not include PG seats into the general pool because of the delay in getting the LoP.

The earlier letter had asked the medical college authorities to report all the corrections made after the inspection by the Medical Council of India and to indicate whether the college had a university affiliation. The college authorities said that the queries and corrections were indicated immediately.

Meanwhile, the medical college’s new principal, Dr. Praveenlal Kuttichira, will take charge on Monday. A member of the Medical Council, Dr. Praveenlal was dean of research at KUHS. He had earlier worked as principal of Thrissur and Alappuzha medical colleges.
