Young techies at the Model Engineering College (MEC) in Thrikkakara here maintained their impressive track record in campus placement with 31 companies making 321 offers on campus for students passing out this May.
About 95.4 per cent of students have earned plum pre-placement offers from the who-is-who of the Indian IT industry indicating a steady recruitment drive by companies in prestigious engineering colleges across the country. The MEC is affiliated to Cusat and functions under the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD).
There is good news for the best among the aspirants, as pay packets offered by companies are getting bigger. Microsoft offered the highest annual salary of Rs. 16 lakh to a student on the campus. Zynga was in second position when it offered a pay packet of Rs. 11.4 lakh a year.

Stating that the entry-level pay packet shot up from Rs. 4.2 lakh last year to Rs. 4.8 lakh this time, Jayasree V. K., faculty member and placement officer at MEC, said that there seems to be a resurgence in recruitment by the Indian IT industry.
Students of the B. Tech. Computer Science and Engineering branch won 136 pre-placement offers while those pursuing the B. Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering bagged 141 offers. The students of Electronics and Biomedical Engineering batch won 44 offers, she said.
Nithin Valentine and Naveen Emmanuel, student co-ordinators (placement), pointed out that the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) made an all-time record number of offers (150) for the students.

The companies that visited the MEC campus for the first time include Ittiam Systems (three offers), Redhat (one) and SAP Labs (five). Some of the major core companies that offered placements include Oracle (11), Nvidia (two), Open Silicon (two), Ansys-Apache (two), and Cypress Semiconductor (three), they said. Zynga and Cosmic Circuits have also extended pre-placement offers to the students even before the start of the placement season. M.Tech students also got internship offers from research and development companies.
