It was a marathon effort on Sunday by KSEB officers and workers to create a new bay for supply of 15 mw power to Kochi metro rail project’s Muttom yard.

KSEB sources said that creation of the bay, involving around 40 workers and officers, started around 4 a. m. on Sunday and was completed ahead of the scheduled 8 p.m.

The fresh bay will enable supply of the required power to the Kochi metro facility using a 110 kV supply line. The underground cables are being laid by the metro rail authority,

In undertaking the work on the new bay, Electricity Board had to solve the problem of possible power disruption in all of Ernakulam district and some parts of Thrissur district, which are served by 32 sub-stations.

The Board had warned the public to expect frequent power disruptions on Sunday but a Board official said that there was no power disruption as expected during the work, which went off smoothly.Sunday was chosen for the work because it would have meant least inconvenience to all categories of consumers, including commercial and industrial consumers.
