Parts of the crude reflusher drum and HP receiver, meant for Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s Kochi Refinery expansion, and weighing approximately 85 tonnes, will be moved from the port to the project site in seven parcels on December 21 and 22 and on December 28 and 29.
The equipment pieces were fabricated by a Mumbai-based engineering firm.
The mammoth equipment, 19 metres long, 7.8 metres high and seven metres wide, will be moved using hydraulic axles over the four days. The first day’s movement of the equipment will take them to the Kundannoor Junction from where they will reach the refinery site on the following day.

The difficulties associated with the transport of the equipment are linked to their dimensions. The Kochi refinery had received even larger pieces of equipment in 2009. The arrival of the 750-tonne vacuum gas oil hydro desulphurisation unit was greeted with a lot of amazement here. The reactor, fabricated in China, was part transported to the refinery through National Waterway III in specially-built barge.
