The autonomous Ernakulam Maharaja's College will conduct a special allotment to fill the vacant seats in its first-year undergraduate programmes.
An emergency meeting of the Governing College authorised Principal Prof PV Sasi to hold discussions with the officials of the Thiruvananthapuram-based LBS Centre for Science and Technology to chalk out the schedule for the special allotment. More than 50 per cent seats were remaining vacant in various courses even as the classes for first-year undergraduate courses began on Wednesday. Several aspirants had joined other colleges after the online registration and allotment process carried out by LBS Centre had run in to trouble owing to the 54-day long autonomy agitation that ended on July 5.
Governing Council Chairman Prof PK Abdul Azis said that efforts were on to complete the special allotment by the end of this month. The Governing Council found that several students, who had received allotment, failed to remit the fee prescribed while others paid the fee but did not take the allotment. They will get a chance to enrol for the course of their choice during the special allotment. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories can participate in the allotment.

College authorities decided to cancel the allotment given to five students for first-year undergraduate courses after SFI activists alleged that the admission was given violating the rules. They held a protest at the Principal's office stating that the allotment was given after the deadline . It was called off after the authorities agreed to cancel the allotment.
