Lawyers keep off court

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - KOCHI:

The functioning of a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court headed by Justice K.T. Sankaran was affected till noon as lawyers did not turn up despite a warning given by the judge.

The Bench comprising Justice K.T. Sankaran and Justice B. Sudheendra Kumar had to wind up its sitting in the morning because of the absence of lawyers appearing in criminal appeal cases involving various murder cases posted before it.

However, the Bench held its sitting after lunch recess and considered three criminal appeals.

Meanwhile, S Jagadees, Registrar General of the Kerala High Court, issued a notice of warning on the basis of Justice Sanakaran’s letter sent on Wednesday.

The notice warned that if the counsel for the appellant did not appear, the appellant would be intimated about the absence of their lawyers and the matter would be reported to the Bar Council of Kerala.

The Judge in his letter said that though 23 criminal appeals had been listed for final hearing on Wednesday, not even a lawyer in the first case listed was present to argue the case.
