The older generation as well as the generation next still prefer to listen to the golden melodies of Hindi films of the sixties and seventies. This was proved once again by the overwhelming response to the musical programme ‘Gaata rehe mera dil…’ organised by the BEAME (Bank Employees Arts Movement, Ernakulam) recently.
It was one of the rarest occasions when the T.D.M. Hall overflowed with massive gathering of music lovers from across all sections of society.
“The theme of the programme was to present the golden melodies of films of three legendry actors who passed away last year. The songs were from the films of Shammi Kapoor, Devanand and Rajesh Khanna,” says Radhakrishnan, president of BEAME who organized the show in collaboration with Ernakulam Karayogam.

Melodious rendition of everlasting hits of Hindi films by renowned singer Azad and Chitra Arun were the highlights of the programme.
Azad, whose voice resembles Mohammed Rafi’s, was at his best. His duets with Chitra Arun, who recited Latha and Asha songs, were well received by the packed house.
“Azad is undoubtedly the best singer of Mohammed Rafi songs in South India,” says Suresh, a noted music connoisseur and managing partner of K. P.Govinda Menon & Sons, Mattancherry who was among the audience.

Junior Mehaboob and Arun Sukumar from Kozhikode were the other singers who were also well received by the listeners. While Junior Mehaboob sang Mukesh hits like ”Main ne Tere Liye…” and “Kahin Door Jab din” from Anand, Arun Sukumar enthralled the audience with the Kishore Kumar hits like “Zindagi Ka Safar…”(Safar) and “Chinkari Koyi…” (Amar Prem).
The programme became more impressive with the compering by Ajithkumar, chief manager of Federal Bank, Marine Drive.
