Mulavukad police on Thursday registered a case against a local politician and six others on multiple charges including wrongful confinement and use of obscene language.

The group led by Shammy, leader of a political party, allegedly arrived at the four-storied apartment complex owned by Thodupuzha-based Sunny Mathew and his wife in the afternoon. They reportedly kicked the gate and hoisted flag on it, hurled abuses at the couple, and threatened them of dire consequences if they ventured out. There was no one else in the apartment complex built to tap tourism potential.

Though the couple did not complain out of fear, the police arrived at the scene after a television channel flashed the news, by which time the group had fled the scene. Despite the couple not filing a written complaint, police registered a case under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 294 (b) (using obscene language). – Staff Reporter
