Minister inaugurates KSSIA meeting

The State government is open and positive about a proposal on forging public-private partnership to establish industrial estates to help small and medium-scale industrial units, said Minister for Industries A.C. Moideen. The Minister was inaugurating the third general council meeting of the Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA) here on Monday.

The proposal for PPPs to set up industrial estates was mooted by the industry association, which believes that it would help speed up the process of setting up industrial estates. The industrial estates in the State face a scarcity of space.

The Minister said industry representatives would be included in discussions on a new land policy as well as land lease policy. Industries have been demanding that they be provided an exit route if they wanted to wind up a business. This is not possible now in industrial estates because the land on which the units function are not their property. Besides, the industry has been asking for longer lease period.

e-governance

Introduction of e-governance in various departments, including in the industries department, would help curb corruption and speed up the process of getting mandatory permits for industrial units. Mr. Moideen said the State government was working on building legal provisions for improving ease of doing business.
