International and national experts in radiology and imaging that has changed modern medical practice drastically over the past decade, will begin a three-day annual meet here on Thursday.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, K. Mohanan, organising chairman of the 68{+t}{+h}annual conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, said that though the specialty was considered as a major advent in medicine that had raised the cost of treatment, it was also a specialty that helped patients avoid invasive methods causing trauma and had helped many patients detect diseases, thus making early intervention possible.
Issues of radiation safety in relation to a number of radiology procedures will also be discussed.

The focus of the conference will be in implementing the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Misuse and Prevention) Act. Dr. Mohanan said that the Kerala factor of better sex ratio would be highlighted and a session in the conference would talk about misuse of radiology procedures and ethical practice.
The conference would have about 2,500 paper presentations of which 1,000 would be original research papers by young radiologists. Over 3,000 delegates were expected to attend the meet where 50 international-level faculty members and about 150 national faculty members would present papers. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the formal function on Thursday at 6.30 p.m.
