Call centre too set up for voters to clarify their doubts

Gone are the days when citizens had to visit offices to avail their services or lodge complaints as voters.

By launching multiple mobile apps ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission has made all such services available on voters’ palms.

Voter Helpline not only helps first-time voters register their names but also enables existing voters to verify their details and even shift to another constituency. Voters can also lodge complaints regarding delivery of services and even get them disposed under fast track. The app will also disseminate information issued by the Election commission from time to time.

The other app, Person with Disability (PWD), enables registration as differently abled voters and changing into a PWD voter from the existing list. The commission will help with the selection of convenient polling booths, formation of separate queues, setting navigation to the booth, and arrangement of wheelchairs for those registering using the app.

“We have tagged around 7,600 out of 8,000 differently abled voters in the district. They will be provided service as required on the polling day,” said Deputy Collector (Election) S. Shajahan.

The district administration has so far received 73 complaints regarding violation of the Model Code of Conduct over the mobile app cVIGIL. “Citizens can take images or videos of such violations, geotag and post them in the app. The district administration is supposed to take action on them within 100 minutes,” said District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla.

Besides, a call centre (1950) has been set up for voters to clarify doubts. The centre is receiving 100 calls a day on an average, the Collector said.
