District Collector P. I. Sheik Pareed has said that a foot overbridge would be built on the northern side of the Ernakulam North Railway overbridge as part of the work on the bridge for the metro rail project in the City.
The work on the three-metre wide foot overbridge is expected to begin soon, said the Collector, who visited the site on Sunday to get a first-hand feel of the progress of the work.
The Collector and other officials also met the people from whom land would be taken over for the rail overbridge project. Formalities for the take over of the land have been completed and the process is expected to be finished soon.

The Collector issued instructions on Sunday to begin work on relocating the 66 kv electricity supply lines owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board, which passes over the railway overbridge. The Railway Safety Commissioner has already issued permission to remove the span over the railway line, said a press release from the State Information Office here. It is expected that the work on the rail overbridge will be completed before the stipulated 18 months, the press release added. It also said that permission had been granted for increasing the width of the M.G. Road and the Banerjee Road. There will be some land acquisition involved in widening the Banerjee Road, said the Collector. He said that work on the overbridge was progressing as scheduled and they were being moved fast as planned. Project director for the Metro Rail P. Shree Ram and deputy chief engineer V. R. Sudhi were among those who accompanied the Collector to the work site.
