Denny Sunny, a software engineer working in Bangalore, had been referred to a private hospital for a minor surgery on his jaw bone by his dentist.

The family of a 26-year-old who died following a surgery at a private hospital in Aluva alleged that medical negligence had caused his death.

The Aluva police have registered a case and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday.

The police said Denny Sunny, a software engineer from the city working in Bangalore, was referred to the private hospital for a minor surgery on his jaw bone by his dentist. He had arrived at the hospital with his parents for a scheduled surgery around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Around 5 p.m., doctors informed Denny’s parents that there had been complications during the surgery and that he had to be taken to a private hospital in Kochi immediately. Denny, however, died on the way to the hospital.

Relatives of the deceased alleged that medical negligence, possibly in the administration of anaesthesia, had caused his death.

“He had driven himself to the hospital by car. It was supposed to be a minor surgery. The body showed no marks that indicated that the surgery had begun. We suspect that something went wrong when they administered anaesthesia,” said Joseph, a cousin of the deceased.

The police said they were investigating the death and were waiting for the post-mortem examination report. Hospital authorities were unavailable for comment on the incident.
