Many schools secure 100% pass, increase tally bagging A1 in all subjects

KOCHI: Schools in Ernakulam district fared exceptionally well in the Class X examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Several schools secured 100% pass and increased the tally of students bagging A1 in all subjects. The official website of the board witnessed heavy traffic minutes after the results were declared on Saturday afternoon.

T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, president of the Kerala CBSE School Management Association, said the Thiruvananthapuram region of the board had come out with flying colours, recording the highest pass percentage. “The number of students who scored A1 in all subjects increased considerably here compared to the previous year. Despite a drop in the overall pass percentage for Class X, students in the State put up an impressive performance,” he added.

On the possibility of CBSE students switching to the State board after Class X, Mr. Khan said the early trends showed a likely decline in the number of students shifting to the State board. “The exact number, however, will be known soon. We hope the numbers will not be large this time,” he said.

However, several parents said that they preferred to enrol their children for Plus One under the State board this time. “We hope that they will be able to fare better in Plus One and Two compared to the CBSE. They may also have a better chance of performing better in the State engineering entrance examination, in which the final ranking is made after evaluating the marks scored in Plus Two/Class 12 exams and the scores in the entrance exam,” a parent said.

However, parents who chose to let their children continue in the CBSE stream said the syllabus and curriculum would prove beneficial in the long run. CBSE students have the advantage of making it big in national-level exams, they said.
