To provide last mile connectivity to metro commuters

E-autos will hit the city on Wednesday, providing last mile connectivity to commuters of Kochi metro.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited managing director A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish will flag off the e-autos at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium Metro Station at Kaloor at 4 p.m.

There will be 16 e-autos supplied by Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions in the first phase and they will be located at six metro stations — Aluva, Kalamassery, Edappally, Kaloor, M.G. Road and Maharaja’s College.

KMRL says 22 more e-autos will be added to the fleet very soon. The vehicles, says a communication, use the latest technology, which ensures good performance and with the capacity to cover a distance of 70 km after a single charging.

Uniquely, the e-auto project is operated by Ernakulam Auto Rickshaw Drivers Cooperative Society, a body consisting of all the six trade unions in the city. The launch of special uniforms for the drivers of the society will also be held on Wednesday, supported by the Indian Oil Corporation. Technovia Info Solution’s Private Limited is the technology partner of the society.

“We are glad to introduce e-autos in Kochi city as part of our feeder service. The same fuels KMRL’s push for e-mobility,” says Mr. Hanish.
