A decision on the proposed flyovers at Kundannoor, Vyttila and Palarivattom will be taken soon, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

After inaugurating the Kettuvallam bridge and walkway at Marine Drive on Sunday, Mr. Chandy said the State government would give priority to the infrastructure needs of the city.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been assigned the task of constructing the flyover at Edappally.

The drinking water projects, including the Japan-aided project for Kochi, would be implemented on priority basis next year, he said. Kochi metro project would also be completed in a time-bound manner. Once the Kochi-Kozhikode coastal highway was completed, the travel time between the two cities would be reduced significantly, he said.

In his address, Excise Minister K. Babu called for the formation of a metropolitan council and authority for planning and implementing development projects.

The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), which constructed the bridge, would introduce helium balloon rides and laser shows at Marine Drive, said authority chairman N. Venugopal.
