Notwithstanding the interventions from its leadership, the woes of the Congress parliamentary party in Thrikkakara municipality appear to be no way near the end. On Monday, Ajith Babu Joseph, a Congress councillor and chairman of the municipal development standing Committee, submitted his resignation as a mark of protest against the re-election of Ajitha Thankappan as chairperson of the Municipal Public Works Committee.
“The election of Ajitha, an I group councillor, is against the earlier understanding to oust her from the position. Similarly, we are yet to get an explanation on the resignation of P.S. Radhamani, another Congress councillor who had been elected to the post later,” he said.
According to Ajith, P.A. Mohammed Ali as leader of A group councillors was taking decisions by keeping his group members in the dark to protect his interests. Besides, Thrikkakara MLA Benny Behnan also refused to intervene in the issue despite repeated requests from A group councillors, including himself.

Benny Behnan MLA declined to comment on the issue and said all the decisions were taken in line with the directions from the party leadership.
Ajitha Thankappan had been ousted from the post following a no-confidence motion brought by the ‘A’ group councillors. Following a direction from the KPCC, the party – in its second attempt, re-elected her once again to the same post last week.
