: Bureaucratic lapses and lack of clarity in selection process have landed aspirants applying for the central sector scholarship provided by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in a fix.
Anxious students and parents complained that they have not been able to complete the online application process before the deadline on Friday. But officials of the Directorate of Collegiate Education said on Friday that they had received official intimation from the Ministry that the last date has been extended to November 30.
Selected undergraduate students will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.1,000 while postgraduate students will get Rs.2,000 for a period of 10 months respectively as part of the scheme.

A first-year undergraduate student in the city said that she could not complete the online application process despite having the marks prescribed by the MHRD. Repeated efforts to contact the scholarship section at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, responsible for co-ordinating the scholarships to be distributed in Kerala, also failed, she said.
Students and parents alleged that lapses on the part of the Higher Secondary Directorate while uploading the roll number of the aspirants in to the scholarship website had led to the present confusion. Officials at the Collegiate Education Department admitted that a mix-up had occurred while giving the roll numbers. “It was not complete initially. But the mistake was rectified the other day and details of all eligible students have been uploaded now,” said an official.
They said that 1, 300 students had applied for the scholarship from the State as on Friday. About 2,324 students will receive the benefit in 2015-16. Students could log on towww.dcescholarship.kerala.gov.
