: District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam has ordered inspection of labour camps, including migrant labour camps, to keep a check on communicable diseases.
The Health and the Labour departments have been asked to inspect hygiene in the camps and to ensure health of the workers living in the camps. The orders were issued in a high-level meeting held on Monday in view of dengue fever being reported from various parts of the district. The Collector has asked the authorities concerned to identify areas that had earlier reported communicable diseases and take pro-active steps.
The Health department informed the meeting that diarrhoeal diseases in West Kochi have been controlled. In many areas where the water supply pipes had developed leaks, the water was found to be contaminated with high levels of e-coli bacteria. People had also been advised to use hand-pumps carefully.

The District Collector asked the Kerala Water Authority to inspect the pipelines from where many water-borne diseases had been reported.
He asked all the departments concerned to find the source of communicable diseases and to rectify the problem. Squads will be formed to inspect government offices, he said. All officers in charge of offices have to ensure that waste is disposed properly.
