Coconut exhibition in city

Simple devices that help in climbing a coconut tree are on display.

An exhibition of various varieties of coconuts was opened in Kochi as part of the Cocotech meeting. A host of processed and ancillary products and machinery for processing coconut are on display.

Among them are simple devices that help in climbing a coconut tree.

One such device has been developed by Kerala Agricultural University.

These devices gain significance in the present scenario where farmers are grappling with the non-availability of coconut climbers. The stall of the Directorate of Cashewnut & Cocoa Development has publications that provide information on modern methods of agriculture including production of organic cashew apple and nut.

Valuable inputs for growing a variety of vegetables are available at the State Horticulture Mission stall.

Among the varied products made from coconut include toffee, coconut milk powder, desiccated coconut and ball copra.

Other attractions

Furniture made from the wood of coconut palm trees is another attraction.

Rain shelters, micro irrigation systems, simple tools to cut tender coconut and household articles made from coconut shells are also part of the exhibition.
