Coastal security campaign in Alappuzha

The Southern Naval Command on Sunday launched a two-day coastal security awareness campaign along the coastal villages of Alappuzha District.

The exercise aims at bringing awareness on the threats from the sea and the role of the coastal populace in thwarting them as also the various safety precautions to be taken by fishermen at sea.

U. Pratibha Hari, president, Alappuzha block panchayat inaugurated the programme at a brief function in Arthungal village. In addition to a SNC team, officials of the Department of Fisheries and Coastal Police also participated in the campaign co-ordinated by the Naval Officer in Charge (NOIC), Kerala, Captain Varghese Mathew.

Alongside, INHS Sanjivani, the Naval Hospital at Kochi organised a medical camp at St. Francis Higher Secondary School in Arthungal village that offered free health check-up for the coastal residents and distributed essential medicines.

In addition to Arthungal, the campaign was held at Mararikulam Thekke Panchayat on Sunday. On Monday, the team will be covering Punnapra, Thottappally and Thrikkunnapuzha Panchayats.
