: The tribal residents of Variyamkudy Colony in Kuttampuzha grama panchayat who are willing to relocate will be allotted two acres of land at the Panthapra colony, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
Visiting the colony on Monday, the Chief Minister also entrusted the District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam, who was accompanying him, to identify the issues faced by its residents and prepare a comprehensive development plan for their education and other growth needs. The decision with regard to relocating the residents of Variyamkudy, was taken following reports about wild animals frequently spotted in the area.
To a complaint that 66 of the 218 families who have relocated were yet to get their title deeds, the Chief Minister directed the Collector to issue the documents for 32 families within two weeks.

The allocation of land at Panthapra colony will be made only upon filing applications. Apart from land, financial assistance will be extended through the Scheduled tribe welfare department for constructing houses. The government owns about 539 acres of land in Panthapara and after allocating two acres per family, this will come down to 103 acres. This remaining land will be utilised for a common purpose such as construction of a hostel for students. For the construction of hostel, the Ernakulam District panchayat has set aside a fund of Rs. 5 crore.
