Four different cases have been registered against 50-odd persons who could be identified by sight in connection with the tension at Santhipuram Colony near Alinchuvadu, Vennala on Monday night.

Activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Youth Congress clashed over a local issue. The Youth Congress were seeking arrest of a DYFI leader on charges of sexual abuse of a boy. Youth Congress members held a protest meeting on Monday which led to clashes and stone-pelting. Both the groups held protest marches in the area, where a hartal was called following Monday's incidents. No untoward incident was reported on Tuesday and no arrests have been made so far. Two of those involved in the incident, and currently admitted to hospital with injuries, were put under surveillance.

The police had earlier tried to mediate between the two groups and find an amicable solution. But with the developments taking an ugly turn on Monday, the police have decided to pursue the cases and make some arrests soon, it is learnt.
