Judge Kalam Pasha sends the PoE in remand for want of the case diary and an affidavit carrying the undertaking of the accused.

The Ernakulam CBI Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition by the CBI seeking custody of L. Adolphus, the Protector of Emigrants (PoE) and a key accused in the Kochi nurses’ recruitment scam and remanded him for a day.

Considering a custody petition by the CBI for his interrogation, Judge Kalam Pasha sent the PoE in remand for want of the case diary and an affidavit carrying the undertaking of the accused.

This followed a submission by the CBI counsel that the case diary could be produced on Wednesday after due updating.

Following this, the court dismissed the petition seeking his custody for three days and remanded Adolfus for one day.

It also directed the CBI to produce Adolphus on Wednesday and file a fresh custody application along with the updated case diary.

L. Adolphus was arrested by the CBI for allegedly abetting the extortion of money by Al Zarafa Travel and Manpower Consultants from nursing recruits to Kuwait.

As per the case, Al Zarafa levied service charges of around Rs.19.5 lakh from each candidate as against the stipulated fee of Rs.19,500.

Even though several complaints had been filed against the travel agency with the PoE, the official did not act and even sent copies of the complaints to the agency, officials said.
