October 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:18 am IST - KOCHI:

The probe into the mysterious disappearance of Smitha may take a new turn with the Crime Branch filing a report in the Kerala High Court, giving its consent to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Official sources said the decision was taken after both the victim’s kin and the accused approached the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the incident.

As per the case, Smitha George, a native of Kochi and wife of Antony went missing from Dubai since 2005. Based on a complaint from the missing woman’s parents, the Crime Branch conducted a probe and arrested Smitha’s husband. “The report expressing our no objection for a probe by the Central agency was submitted to the court two weeks ago, which is slated for consideration in the next couple of days. CBI, with more access to international police agencies and Interpol, can conduct a more detailed probe’’, officials said.
