Bus services blocked in Vypeen

Bus services were disrupted in Vypeen following protest against the delay in arresting the driver of the private bus that ran over a pedestrian on Monday.

Devarajan, 45, of Pandikasalayil, Njarakkal, was hit by a speeding bus at Perumpally at around 7 p.m. and he died of injuries by 9.30 p.m.

Local residents stopped buses from operating in the area on Tuesday from early morning. With private buses and KSRTC buses lined up along the road, traffic was entirely blocked in the area. Even though the protest was withdrawn following discussions by 11 a.m., private buses did not operate for the whole day.

The driver of the bus that caused the accident Prathapan, 48, of Kalluchirayil, Ezhikkara, Paravur, was arrested by the police by noon. He was later produced before Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded.

One arrested

A youth wanted in many theft cases was arrested by Town Central Police while moving along with stolen materials.

Aneesh Kumar, 20, Thonkarathil Veedu, Kannachiparambu, Kottayi, Palakkad was arrested by the team led by A. Ananthalal, sub-inspector, during a search operation.

He was later produced before Ernakulam Court and remanded.
