Good governance and effective administration of the Narendra Modi government will fetch voter support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Kerala Assembly election, Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has said.

Talking to media persons here on Monday, Mr. Gowda said the party had emerged as a “visible alternative” in the State.

In the past, there was no alternative to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala. It was like a game of chess where one side would invariably win the match. “The BJP and its allies have emerged as the viable political alternative in the State,” he said.

‘Corruption-free’

Mr. Gowda said two years of the Modi government at the Centre had been free of scams or corruption. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had put forth a good model of governance and people appreciated it.

The vote share of the BJP has increased significantly in the State, whereas the UDF and the LDF recorded considerable erosion in their vote base. “The Communists have become ideologically bankrupt. They have double standards regarding the Congress in West Bengal and Kerala,” he said.

The Minister alleged that the Congress and the CPI(M) were replicating the West Bengal model of alliance in as many as 80 seats in the State. The alliance was already working in Bengal and they would work it out in Kerala too.

“The UDF and the LDF has reached a political understanding in the State,” he said.

Railway projects

Mr. Gowda, who had earlier held the Railways portfolio, said the State government had failed to respond to a note from the Centre regarding the railway projects that were to be implemented in Kerala.
