Biennale signature film calls out to the child in everyone

December 24, 2014 07:56 am | Updated 07:56 am IST - Kochi:

A signature film of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale calls out to every person asking them to bring back their inner child and release their imaginations. The film, less than a minute-and-a-half long, was directed by Aashiq Abu and narrated by singer Shahabaz Aman.

‘To appreciate genuine poetry, a song or a painting, you need not be a poet, musician or painter. You only need to be a child’, Mr. Aman’s haunting voice tells the viewer in the nostalgic 86-second movie.

Director Aashiq Abu said one aim of the work was to dispel the notion that events like the Biennale were exclusively for the elite. “Anyone with a curious mind can find art in anything around—as we could in our childhood,” he said.

The animated film, which was released on YouTube, has been produced jointly by Kochi-based Papaya media and Studio Dreamcatcher of Thiruvananthapuram, said a press release.

Hailing KMB as an international platform of art, the filmmaker said the Biennale has benefited Kerala, especially Kochi, in terms of art, tourism and cultural exchange. “We made the film in Malayalam to improve local participation in the show, as we are in a position to think more seriously about art and artists.”
