Attack on couple: three youths held

Three youths were arrested on Saturday in connection with the attack on a couple inside a KSRTC bus at Muvattupuzha.

Those arrested were Sabarish, Deepu and Sreejith, all aged 22 years.

The police are in search of three more persons in this connection. The arrested three were produced before the Kothamangalam court and remanded in judicial custody.

The couple were attacked after the husband entered into a verbal duel with a 50-year-old man who allegedly misbehaved with his wife.

The police team that questioned the passengers in the bus has learnt that the man, whose identity is yet to be revealed by the police, accidentally touched the woman while boarding the bus.

But the husband was furious and showered abuse on the man, following which the latter called the youngsters. The man will be charged with abetment, said police sources.

The youths assaulted the husband and he had to be admitted to the Kolenchery Medical College with a broken nose.

The incident occurred when the bus reached Muvattupuzha bus depot at 7.50 p.m. on Thursday.

RSS activists

All the accused involved in the incident are learnt to be activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the senior person is believed to be a State-level leader of the organisation. Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) took out a march in Muvattupuzha on Friday in protest against alleged attempt on the part of the police to help the accused.
