Arrangements complete for Makaravilakku, says Collector

All preparations have been completed for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Makaravilakku festival in the district, District Collector Ajit Patil has said.

He said that the services of the executive magistrates will be available in the main places under the Peermedu taluk, in addition to 24-hour control rooms and help desks. The control rooms will be based at the Manjumala village office and at the Collectorate in Painavu. The phone numbers are 04869 253362 and 04862 232242.

There will be three help desks in the village offices of Kumily, Periyar and Manjumala, Mr Patil said, adding that they will function till January 15. There will be various squads to check quality of the food items and prevent overcharging of the pilgrims by the outlets. The squads will function under the Peermedu taluk supply officer and the deputy tahasildar, Peermedu.

The pilgrims can provide complaint on phone numbers 9447036572 and 9495512512. He said that two official teams will evaluate the arrangements done for the pilgrims at the temporary halting areas in the district from two days prior to the Makaravilakku.
