Forget writing a screenplay, third standard students hardly ever come across that word; not even during routine classroom dictations. But seven students of the MES Eastern School, Eloor, have written a screenplay based on which a short film is now being made.
The one-hour-long film “Kooduthedunnavar” (in search of a nest) is being produced by Changathy, an informal gathering of school teachers.
It has got assistance from the Eloor panchayat, which has included it under an education project.

The screenplay penned by Aswathy P.R., Soofiya T.M., Priya S., Aneesa, Athira Rajeevan, Ebin George and Sahana Hussain is being directed by their teacher Sasidharan Kallery.
Students Divya Gopinath, Nithin P.S., Reshma Rameshan, Jobin, Priyanka P., Amritha K.S., and Asmi put on the grease paint portraying the central characters in the film.
Besides, more than hundred students from Class I to XII in the Aluva sub district would make an appearance in it. The three-minute-long song sequence in the film has the signature of a fifth standard student Hanna Sulthana.

Another highlight of the project would be the guest appearances by former Rajya Sabha MP, K. Chandran Pillai, Eloor grama panchayat president C.P. Usha, and Principal of the Government High School Jasmine, said those associated with the film.
The film tries to pose a few disturbing questions before a society where modern urban values had slowly engulfed the villages depriving them of their innate virtues, love, and peaceful co-existence.
Set amidst a tragic background, the director hopes that it would at least spark a faint flame of humanity among the audience.
Compassionate neighbours who extend a helping hand during poverty, former schoolmates who bring hope and comfort to friends who are on their deathbeds, and a desire for a social set-up that prompts people to think and strive for the good of the entire society; the film at different layers tries to convey this and much more.
A scene in which daughters question their mother about their religiosity while turning a blind eye to the hunger of a fellow human pretty much sums up what the film attempts to convey.
